So what is TIG?

The IBS Guide is a 12 week self-management programme designed to help YOU take control of your IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) symptoms.

The IBS Guide has been co-created by Dietitian Laura Tilt and Madeleine Shaw.

Laura is a registered dietitian who has specialised in gut conditions and IBS for over five years, seeing hundreds of IBS sufferers in weekly clinics. Since training in the low FODMAP diet in 2012, and seeing how many people were struggling with IBS symptoms without support, Laura has become passionate about raising awareness of IBS, and helping sufferers to take control.

Madeleine is a nutritional therapist and best selling author of three cookbooks. She first got into health after being diagnosed with IBS. After years of suffering Madeleine discovered that changing her diet and lifestyle was the key to managing symptoms. She always dreamed of sharing her knowledge with the world, helping others with the same condition.

WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT TIG?

IBS support is severely lacking in the UK

Research suggests IBS affects up to 1 in 7 people in the UK - but very little is available to help patients manage the condition. Where do you start with IBS? How can you take control of your symptoms?

We came together to create this programme, because we just don’t think there’s anything like this out there - and we’ve seen first hand how difficult it is to access support services.

An Affordable Cost

Seeing a dietitian privately can cost hundreds of pounds - and we know not everyone has the opportunity to do this. The alternative - accessing a dietitian through your G.P. - can take months - or may not even be available in your area. The IBS Guide costs just £49.99 for lifetime access making this an accessible programme for all.

A 360 Approach

We wanted to meet you in the middle by creating a programme that you can follow to start taking control of your symptoms - NOW. This isn’t just about diet - we’ve created a 360 degree approach to help you better manage your symptoms - which includes mindset, movement and meals.

Support and Community

We also recognise the importance of support and community, which is why when you join us, you’ll be joining a support system, where you can share stories, advice and tips.
What others are saying about TIG

I have been on your guide since day one. I’ve eaten like you’ve told me to, drank water like you’ve told me too, slowed down like you’ve told me too. And my god. What a difference. I haven’t been bloated for a week now and it feels so good.

Jade

I've been loving TIG so far, particularly the way the website is set out to easily digest (no pun intended!) the language is so accessible and you've provided a great deal of recipes too

Karen

I wanted to thank you both again for TIG - this is helping me in so many ways. My stomach, bowel, cooking good food again and my bank balance. As I am now only buying the food I need for my meals and not over buying food that is either wasted or put in the freezer!

Kelly

Today I was able to eat breakfast on a work day for the first time in a few years!! Usually makes me feel so ill. Sure it was only small but it's a start. Learning a lot about my body through this journey!

Shelley

The programme has been so helpful in helping me to understand the theory behind my triggers and it’s given me a lot more confidence to talk about IBS and how it can sometimes make day to day life challenging.

Priya

Thank you both so much for providing TIG, already I feel like I have got more than my moneys worth and I'm so excited to follow through the next few weeks.

Kelly

Who is this Programme for?

  • You’ve been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome
  • You’re ready to make some lifestyle changes to help manage your symptoms
  • You’ve been advised to change your diet, but have no access to a dietitian
  • You’re confused about IBS and want some support!

Please note, this programme is not suitable if

  • You have not visited your G.P. to discuss your gut symptoms, this is super important to check it isn’t something more serious
  • You are underweight, or have lost more than 10% of your body weight in the last 6 months
  • You have or have previously had an eating disorder

I THINK I HAVE IBS BUT I’M NOT SURE:

It’s really important that you’ve been to see your G.P. (doctor) and have had a diagnosis of IBS before you start this programme.

Although it is tempting to self-diagnose, the symptoms of IBS (like bloating, tummy pain or a change in your poop) are the same as those we see in conditions like coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel disease. If these go undiagnosed, they can lead to more serious health problems, so it’s important to make sure you’re starting with the right diagnosis.

A visit to your G.P. will help get you on the right path to managing your symptoms. You will most likely be sent for a blood test, which will help your doctor to determine whether your symptoms are down to IBS. They will ask some questions about your symptoms and poo habits, and how long these have been going on.

I know it might feel embarrassing to discuss your poo habits with your G.P., but I promise they’ve heard it all before. If you don’t know where to start, you might it helpful to take a symptom diary with you, to help describe what you’ve been experiencing.

Why are we doing this?

  1. We want to create an authentic community of women and men who feel comfortable talking about their experiences through the programme, swapping tips and support
  2. Increase awareness of IBS to provide a bit of a lifeline, not just a diagnosis of exclusion, can do something about it!
  3. Provide a resource to NHS so people aren't waiting for help and can use this instead or alongside
  4. Even if we only help 1 person get better we will have done our job
